Cosgrove powers to victory on The Rock

Joseph Cosgrove was crowned the Junior Men’s Champion at the Isle of Man Junior Tour last weekend.

The prologue saw all the riders compete against the clock over the 1.2km course along the promenade in Douglas, before tackling the 8km Ellerslie Circuit for Stage Two, which included a 6% average climb. On Sunday, the Junior riders completed the circuit before racing up Tholt Y Will for a summit finish.

In the prologue, Sam Fisher impressed with a strong ride, which put him into 2nd place with a time of 1 minute 38 seconds. Joe Cosgrove was off next, and he rolled in at 1 minute 42 seconds and 4 seconds off the lead in 18th. Stage 2 on Ellerslie was a tough race on a hilly circuit in wet conditions. A lone rider got away, and the rest of the peloton worked as hard as they could to reel him back in and limit their losses. On stage 2, Joe Cosgrove finished 5th, with Sam Fisher finishing in the main group.

The final stage saw Joe Cosgrove take the win in a dramatic sprint finish up the Tholt Y Will climb. The win on Tholt Y Will put him top of the General Classification to win the second round of the Junior Men’s National Road Series.

The third round of the Junior Men’s National Road Series will see riders tackle the Cadence Road Race on Sunday, 14th May in Wales.
