Anexo’s Patrick Casey Selected to Represent Ireland
Anexo Group Race Team’s Patrick Casey has been named as one of 33 athletes selected to represent Ireland for the Summer European Youth Olympic Festival in Banská Bystric, Slovakia.
The Irish cycling team includes Patrick and five other young riders (three men and three women). All six cyclists have been assigned to the selection for some time and have so far proved to be great competitors in the ranks of young people on the road, and in some cases cyclocross.
Patrick said: “The first selection event was PJ Logan memorial race in Coalisland NI, which was a rolling course with three major climbs. I came second from a two-man breakaway.
“Next was the Waller Cup, which was a very flat 16km loop done three times – a tactical race with the winning breakaway of three only escaping 7km from the line. Again, I came second in the reduced bunch sprint.
“The last two selection events were stages one and two of the Kanturk stage race. In the opening road race, I was in the two-man breakaway which went all the way to the line where I got another second place. Stage two was a 10km flat time trial where I narrowly missed out on the top step of the podium by a handful of seconds.”
The riders will all compete in a time trial on July 26 followed by a road race on July 28.
