Training Camp and Race Results in Mallorca

We caught up with the Anexo Group Race Team riders to find out how pre-season training went over in Mallorca.

The team and staff spent over a week out on the island, well known for being a cycling hotspot, to put themselves to the test in readiness for an action-packed 2023 season. They were joined by mentors Alex Dowsett and Ed Clancy, who were able to offer first-hand advice on techniques and conduct.

The team even found time to compete in two local events taking podium positions. In the Trofeu Bicis it was 1st place for Rowe and 3rd for Cosgrove, while in Trofeu Arta, Rowe claimed another 1st place position, with Salter in 2nd.

Elliot Rowe: “I really enjoyed our team training camp out in Mallorca with Anexo Group Race Team. It was my first time in Mallorca, and I loved the roads that were on offer for us to train on, along with the surrounding scenery.

It was a great opportunity to get in some big miles on new roads and have access to quality climbs. We all trained hard throughout the week with Alex and Ed expertly guiding us along the way and reinforcing the importance of teamwork. The importance of this was soon evident to us when we found ourselves working together, both on and off the bike throughout our 10 days away.

Along with our training, we also had the opportunity to compete in two races which was a great chance for us to get a feel for the longer events which we will experience this year in our upcoming season with the team.”

Joe Cosgrove: “It was a great experience spending the week in Mallorca, training with the Anexo squad and mentors, Alex Dowsett and Ed Clancy. The coaches offered great amounts of advice along with a clear plan for the week with regards to training.

Although we were there for training, we also took part in two races. One in Manacor and the other in Arta. It was interesting to take part in two longer races with terrain and competition far more demanding compared to youth racing. We have gained useful information regarding fueling and positioning for the races which will be helpful for our UCI season opener in Belgium, Kuurne Brussels Kuurne. Although we know each other well, it was nice to be in a training environment with my teammates. The larger group was definitely beneficial compared to training solo at home.”

Will Salter: “Training and racing with the Anexo Group Race Team in Mallorca has been an incredible experience. From the challenging climbs to the breathtaking views, I have been able to push myself to new limits and gain a greater appreciation for the sport. The team has been incredibly supportive and encouraging, providing me with the tools and guidance I need to reach my goals. The camaraderie among the team members is unparalleled, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of such an amazing team.”

Bryn Lawrence: “The wind against my face heightened as I put in more effort and gradually moved ahead of my teammates. The burn in my legs was hardly a distraction as the adrenaline of the climb kept me going. It was a fierce competition, and my determination pushed me even harder. To attain success, I knew that I had to challenge myself and push beyond my limits, testing the boundaries of what I was capable of.

As I reached the summit, I felt a sense of triumph. I had proved to myself that I could achieve anything with the right mindset. The view from the top left me in awe.

In conclusion, this particular climb was not only a test of physical endurance but also a testament to the power of mindset – a big take away from the training camp. The whole experience reminded me that with focus, determination, and hard work, we can accomplish anything, no matter how challenging it may seem.

Patrick Casey: “Training camp in Mallorca with Joe, Will, Bryn, Elliot, and Sam has been an amazing experience both on and off the bike. The beautiful weather and scenery make for the perfect cycling conditions, and we have been taking full advantage of it by pushing ourselves with challenging intervals. But it’s not just about cycling, we’ve also been having a lot of fun off the bike, bonding over delicious food and exploring the local area.

It’s been a pleasure to ride with such a great group of people, and the camaraderie and support have been invaluable in helping us all improve our skills and reach our goals. There’s a real sense of teamwork and encouragement, and it’s clear that everyone is here to push themselves and each other to be the best they can be.

Overall, this training camp has been a fantastic opportunity to challenge ourselves, improve our fitness and skills, and create lasting memories. It’s been a pleasure to be here with Joe, Will, Bryn, Elliot, and Sam, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season has in store for us.”

Sam Fisher: “Being part of the Anexo Group Race Team in Mallorca as a sprinter was a thrilling and unforgettable experience. The team’s dedication to excellence was apparent. I felt incredibly privileged to be a part of such a driven and focused group of athletes.

From the moment I joined the team, I was struck by the level of professionalism and attention to detail. The coaches were knowledgeable and supportive, providing expert guidance on everything from technique to nutrition. I felt like I was in good hands, and this gave me the confidence to push myself to new heights.

The training was intense, but the rewards were worth it. And when it came time to compete, I felt fully prepared to give it my all. The rush of adrenaline as I crossed the finish line was indescribable.
